Leaders of the All Progressive Congress (APC) from the Southern Senatorial District of Ondo State have expressed support for Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa's ambition to become the state governor in the upcoming November elections.
This approval came during a crucial stakeholders meeting held at Ore, the headquarters of Odigbo Local Government Area.
The meeting included prominent former commissioners, former political appointees and APC leaders and members from the six council areas within the senatorial district.
The consensus reached was to unite and ensure that Aiyedatiwa secures victory, thereby continuing the legacy of the late Rotimi Akeredolu.
Participants emphasized that Governor Aiyedatiwa’s gubernatorial ambition is not just a personal quest but a collective endeavor for the benefit of the senatorial district and the state as a whole.
They commended the governor as a unifying figure capable of driving significant development in Ondo State.
The leaders also pledged to mobilize grassroots support for Aiyedatiwa, expressing confidence in his ability to build on and expand the development policies and projects initiated by his predecessor, especially in the area of infrastructural development.
One of the leaders of the party, Prof. Sinmidele Odimayo, from Irele Local Government Area, who spoke on behalf of other leaders, said they are prepared for any form of primaries that are adopted.
He said: “This meeting is the meeting of friends of Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa in Ondo South. We have decided to come together as his friends and leaders in Ondo South to discuss how we can deliver on the mandate of his election in April at the primaries and also at the general elections.
“We have discovered that he is a man of principle, a man of progress determined to bring about change, a man of wisdom, a man of great patience, and we know that he can take the affairs of state to a higher level. a high level of development. We have no choice but to come together and beg our people that there is no other way; it's totally Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa.
“During the last governorship election in Edo State, when Obaseki was set to be re-elected, the APC party refused to give him the ticket. Ultimately, he left the party for the PDP and won on the PDP stage. That is why Edo State is a PDP state today. It is a mistake by the party leadership. We don't want something like that to happen in Ondo State.
“God has already given us a governor by appointing Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa as governor at this time. It is painful for us that Akeredolu has left this world, but we know he will be happy that APC remains in power.”
Ololade Gbegudu, Member of House of Representatives representing Okitipupa Constituency II, said: “We are here to talk to our people about our dear Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
“Everyone is willing to jump on the bandwagon, and everyone is committed to this task, and by the special grace of God we will prevail.
“I was one of the people who opposed the impeachment of the governor when he was deputy governor. In fact, I was one of the leading members of the 11 lawmakers who voted against his impeachment.”
Amidu Takuro of Odigbo, a former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, also described Ayedatiwa as a team player who worked with Akeredolu to change the face of Ondo State.
He said: “Ondo Southern Senatorial is blessed and Aiyedatiwa is one of our reigning stars. Coincidentally, God chose him to be the sitting governor.
“The mark of a good leader is that he is a listening person, and you can find that in Aiyedatiwa. He is a person you can always run to, every day. He will always open his door and listen to you.
“Whatever he thinks is right, he will tell you immediately. He will also tell you what he thinks is wrong. He's not a cheater.
“He is a rational thinker. He does not think only about himself, and he is a person who is full of patience. I am seduced by such a person.
“He has demonstrated his ability to lead us in this state after serving as deputy governor of the state for about three years. He served two consecutive terms as acting governor and never failed to serve. As an insider, I know he can pick up where Akeredolu left off.”
The former chairman of Okitipupa Local Government Area of the state, Wale Ogunmade, said: “We are here to give support to our own son, His Excellency, Lucky Aiyedatiwa. He is our own moment in the state, and we try to seize that moment. That is why all our people come together here today to support ours.
“We trust Ayedatiwa; he has served as deputy governor, acting governor and currently as governor of the state. We believe he has experience, so regardless of other contenders, we believe I am him. There are currently no vacancies”
