Musa Mohammed Ali, House of Representatives candidate of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) for Nasarawa Federal Constituency in Kano State in the 2023 general elections, has demanded an apology from the party's National Secretary, Victor Fingesi, and the national chairman, Engr. Sani Yabagi, for allegedly sending a false obituary about him to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) despite knowing full well that he was alive.
However, when asked to respond to the telephone allegations against him, the ADP National Chairman stated that he was unable to speak and that he had to be sent a text message.
He received a text message, as required, about the charge against him, but at the time it was filed he had not responded.
Meanwhile, in a statement made available to LEADERSHIP on Friday in Abuja and signed by Musa Mohammed Ali, he alleged that “following a letter dated November 1, 2022, the National Chairman of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) and the National Secretary, Victor Fingesi, forwarded to the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), entitled: 'NOTIFICATION OF DEATH OF CANDIDATE IN KANO STATE AND SUBSTITUTES FOR REPLACEMENT,'”
He was left heartbroken, devastated and traumatized by the outpouring of condolences from friends and relatives both within and outside Kano State and the nation since the announcement by ADP leaders of his alleged death, which also negatively impacted his campaign for the seat of the House of Representatives in Nasarawa Constituency of Kano State.
He said: 'It has been a year of sadness, pain and sorrow as some people see me as a ghost and wonder if I am still alive. On August 31, 2022, I made an affidavit at the Kano High Court: “That I have NOT withdrawn and will NEVER withdraw my candidacy.” I am still alive and able to be elected as Kano Member of the Federal House of Representatives”.
“I also wrote to the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission a letter dated August 31, 2022, which was acknowledged on October 4, 2022,” he added.
He said the National Chairman of his party, Engr. Yabagi Sani and National Secretary Victor Fingesi wrote to INEC announcing his death despite knowing full well that he was alive and more importantly that he had been actively campaigning for the House of Representatives elections. This was unthinkable, disgusting, reckless and evil.
“It's outrageous, I have yet to recover from this man's inhumanity to man and the pain it has caused my family and affected my business. This transactional politics, the politics of deceit and the politics of bitterness must stop. It is a betrayal of the trust I placed in the ADP National Chairman, Engr. Yabagi Sani, until recently the national chairman of the Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC). The need for responsible and honest leadership cannot be overstated,” he said.
He further said: “Accordingly, I demand within three days a public apology published in five national newspapers and retraction of the insulting letter to INEC or face legal action. It is time to hold political leaders accountable, because those who strive for equality must do so with clean hands.
It is unfair, unjust and cruel of my party chairman and national secretary to conspire and falsify the death certificate of the National Population Commission claiming that my death was registered on October 28, 2022 in Nasarawa Local Government Area of the state Kano, the same day I reportedly died.
“In the worst act of perjury, Engr. Yabagi Sani and Victor Fingesi forged an affidavit issued by the High Court, Kano State, deposed by one Idi Muhammad claiming to be my uncle, that I died at home on July 3, 2022 due to illness. The affidavit was dated July 24, 2022. I call on the Inspector General of Police and the Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to thoroughly investigate and prosecute them to face the full weight of the law. ,” he added.
“Injustice to one person is injustice to all. Nigeria needs God-fearing leaders, not those who wish death on their party members and countrymen because of their insatiable political ambition and personal aggrandizement,” he added.
