A top class graduate expressed his disappointment when he received a cash prize of just N20,000 from the university, saying: “This is less than $20.”

Christopher Chidubem, a first class graduate of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (Unizik) with a CGPA of 4.86/5 in the Department of Mathematics, expressed his disappointment after receiving a cash prize of N20,000 from his department and faculty.

He took to Twitter to share his frustration, posting a photo of the certificate of merit he received from the university and saying: “So I just realized that I graduated as the top student in my department and the faculty with a CGPA of 4.86/5 .

For this achievement I was only paid #20k, which is less than $20. Yes, you read that right: twenty dollars.”

Christopher added, “They say knowledge is power, but today I discovered that it is also valued at exactly twenty dollars. So, for all the aspiring scientists out there, let this be your inspiration: aim for the stars, and you might be able to afford a two-course meal at a mid-range restaurant.”

“But honestly, it’s not about the money. It is about the knowledge, experiences and memories you have gained during this journey. So, here’s to all the financially limited but intellectually rich graduates out there! 🥂 Let’s continue to cherish our ambitious dreams while keeping our wallets modest.”

I just clocked that I graduated as the best student in my department and faculty with an FCGPA of 4.86/5. And for this achievement I received no less than an amount of #20k. That’s less than $20. Yes, you read that right. Twenty dollars. pic.twitter.com/7RgTUvSA9V
