Paul Onuachu will take over Sadiq Umar's position in the 2023 African Cup of Nations after the latter Super Eagles forward was disqualified, according to the report.
This follows the news that striker Victor Boniface would not participate in the competition, which starts tomorrow, January 13, in Ivory Coast.
Umar, 26, suffered a knee injury during the 2-0 friendly defeat between Nigeria and Guinea's Syli Stars on Monday.
However, the official Super Eagles account revealed via X on Friday that Paul Onuachu will take Sadiq Umar's place.
“Sadiq Umar drops out of AFCON 2023 squad due to injury and Paul Onuachu replaces him.”
Onuachu attended the Egypt-hosted AFCON 2019 finals.
But the 29-year-old was injured and missed the previous match in Cameroon.
Onuachu scored nine goals and three assists in fifteen games for Trabzonspor this season.
