Samuel Anyanwu has been confirmed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the party’s national secretary, as well as their gubernatorial nominee for Imo State.
The PDP refuted reports suggesting that the National Working Committee (NWC) had dismissed Anyanwu from his role as the party’s National Secretary.
According to PDP’s spokesman, Debo Ologunagba, the spreaders of such false news are trying to tarnish the party’s reputation and breed dissatisfaction within its ranks.
Ologunagba cautioned against the propagation of such baseless falsehoods, asserting that the party will not tolerate them.
He further encouraged Nigerians to dismiss the rumors and rally behind Anyanwu in the upcoming gubernatorial election.
The party relayed: “Our attention at the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been drawn to a misleading statement by a certain group. This group wrongly claimed that the NWC had ousted our candidate for the 2023 Imo State governorship election, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, from his elected position as the National Secretary of our esteemed party.
“We affirm unequivocally that the group’s claim is utterly unfounded, as the NWC has neither dismissed nor contemplated dismissing National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu from his duties.”
“This group’s ill-conceived actions, which are merely a malicious attempt to undermine and sow discord within the PDP, were strongly criticized by the NWC. Their aim is to damage both the PDP and our candidate, Senator Anyanwu, along with the people of Imo State, and obstruct our efforts to free the state from the rule of the All Progressives Congress (APC).”
“The NWC asserts and emphasises that regardless of the intensity of personal or group conviction about an issue, it is absolutely unacceptable to resort to falsehoods, and invent non-existent NWC decisions.”
“The PDP urges all Nigerians, especially our devoted members and supporters in Imo State, to reject these unfounded allegations. Senator Anyanwu remains the National Secretary and our representative in the November 11 governorship election in Imo State for 2023,” the PDP said.
