Bandits kidnap 23 persons in Abuja

On Thursday, a group of about forty bandits raided Kawu hamlet in the Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory, kidnapping twenty-three persons.

Kawu is bordered by the states of Niger and Kaduna.

Speaking on the incident, the Deputy Chairman of the Council and Councilor for the area, Abdulmumini Zakari, stated that the gunmen entered the community on Wednesday after traveling from Kuyeri Forest in Kaduna State.

He explained: “They divided into groups and some entered the palace of the district head, Abdurrahman Ali, where they kidnapped his son Lukman and his wife, whom he married two weeks ago.

“Others attacked the compound of Alhassan Kawu, the Marafa of Kawu and a former PDP chairman of Kawu district. They kidnapped him along with his four children.”

He went on to say that the bandits also entered the compound of Gambo Pawa, the Sarkin Pawan Kawu, and kidnapped him, his two wives and some children.

SP Josephine Adeh, a spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, confirmed the event to newsmen on Thursday evening, stating that the attackers attacked the area and fled to Kaduna State.

“Some unknown hoodlums stormed Kawu village, a border community with Kagarko LGA, Kaduna State, and abducted people. The truth is that the miscreants raided that area and escaped to Kaduna State,” she said.

This tragedy occurred within twenty-four hours after terrorists were reported to have abducted eighty-five people in Katari, Kachia Local Government Area of ​​Kaduna State, along the Kaduna – Abuja route.

In the same vein, gunmen posing as military personnel on Sunday reportedly broke into Sagwari Estate Layout in Dutse-Alhaji area of ​​the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, and kidnapped eleven people.
