Ex-Nigerian President, Goodluck Jonathan, has publicly announced his support for the incumbent Bayelsa Governor, Douye Diri, who is also a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, seeking re-election in the forthcoming gubernatorial polls this Saturday.
Jonathan believes that Diri deserves another term due to the stability he has provided for the state.
This information was relayed to the public on Tuesday via an official statement issued by Daniel Alabrah, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor.
Alabrah mentioned that Jonathan expressed this sentiment while in the company of notable PDP members, including governors, ex-governors, National Assembly members, and other stakeholders who paid him a visit at his residence in Yenagoa.
In his words, “I have interacted with our governor and feel he merits the opportunity to complete a full eight years. He has successfully brought stability to the state.
“We need to establish a standard process. We cannot self-destruct; we must avoid any form of crisis. I appreciate all of your efforts. As we strive for good governance, it’s imperative to prioritize our nation’s wellbeing.”
The visit from the party leaders was a part of the grand finale activities of Diri’s re-election campaign trail.
Jonathan further mentioned that he has been actively observing Diri’s undertakings in the state.
He noted that under Diri’s leadership, Bayelsa has seen improvements in the spheres of security and infrastructure.
Jonathan also expressed satisfaction over the participation of influential figures such as ex-Governor Seriake Dickson and former Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, Ndutimi Alaibe, in the party’s affairs, stating that it signifies unity within the PDP.
