Olabode George, an influential figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), articulated that his and his party’s duty to President Bola Tinubu and his administration is to provide thoughtful critique, not to deliver slights.
In a press briefing held at his residence in Lagos last Wednesday, George explained that, in spite of any disparities between him and the President, he aspires to offer insightful critique to the governing All Progressives Congress (APC).
The previous Deputy National Chairman of the PDP clarified that the goal behind his critiques is to hold the President and his party accountable, aiming towards the progression and prosperity of the nation.
In addition, George counselled the PDP national administration to introspectively scrutinize the errors that resulted in the party’s subpar showing in the most recent general election.
He stated, “My plea to you is this; we don’t need to associate with his party; it’s essential for us to form a strong opposition to keep the APC members diligent. For the next four years, that will be our role. This is beneficial for the APC members because if everyone is praising the APC and the President endlessly, the same people applauding will be quick to censure the President when his tenure concludes.”
“The president isn’t naive; he’s aware when he’s been excessively flattered. He needs to be vigilant.”
Progressing with the story…
“In respect to President Bola Tinubu, regardless of our disagreements, our nation’s growth is paramount. When we stand as the opposition, it is our responsibility to keep the APC government accountable for the benefit of the nation; I visualize this as the obligation of any opposition party.”
