The gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the March 2023 governorship election in Taraba State, Kefas Agbu, has been confirmed as the elected governor of the state by the Court of Appeal in Abuja.
The Court of Appeal, while delivering a judgment on Tuesday, dismissed the appeal by Muhammad Yahaya and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) as flawed.
Peter Affen, who delivered the main judgment, accused the appellants of having submitted an incomplete report of appeal that could not be heard.
Agbu had polled 257,926 votes to defeat Yahaya who polled 202,277 votes in the election.
Yahaya and his party challenged the results and asked the tribunal to annul Agbu's victory on the grounds that the elections were marred by non-compliance with the Electoral Act.
They also alleged that Agbu did not get a majority of the votes legally cast.
However, the tribunal headed by GA Sunmonu ruled that the petitioners could not prove their claims.
The NNPP and its candidate went further and appealed the tribunal's ruling.
However, the Court of Appeal dismissed the appeal for lack of merit.
