COVID-19 funds: Representatives investigate Ministry of Water for spending N25 million to sink one borehole

On Tuesday, the Public Accounts Committee of the House of Representatives asked questions about the issue Federal Ministry of Water Resources on allegations that it drilled one borehole at a cost of N25 million and others at a cost of N12.5 million each.

During her appearance before the committee at the National Assembly Complex on Tuesday, Ministry of Water Resources Permanent Secretary Didi Walson-Jack said boreholes had been drilled in several states in the federation, including the Federal Capital Territory.

“A total of 299 new water projects were started during this period, just as a total of 188 old and abandoned solar boreholes were revived during the period. Each state of the federation received N10 million intervention items,” Walson Jack said

Unsatisfied with the presentation, committee members alternately demanded that the project locations be verified to ensure they were authentic and not confused with previously sunk boreholes.

They also requested access to the complete list of youth, account numbers, payment schedules for each bank and all other project-related information hired into the YES empowerment program.
