Abdullahi Ganduje, the previous Governor of Kano State, has taken on the role of National Chairman for the dominant All Progressives Congress (APC).
Naija News reports that the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party, elected Ganduje to his position on Thursday. In addition, Ajibola Basiru, a former Senate spokesperson, was confirmed as the national secretary.
The twelfth meeting of the party’s National Executive Committee, held at the Transcorp Hilton’s Convention Hall in Abuja, saw the election of the office bearers.
Among those in attendance at the conference were current President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, the Progressive Governors’ Forum members, and party leaders from the National Assembly, among others.
After his election, Ganduje expressed gratitude to the President and vowed to uphold internal democracy within the party during his term.
He also gave assurance that he would focus on maintaining a scientifically compiled roll of party members, while also prioritizing election management and conflict resolution.
Additionally, Ganduje pledged to work towards securing victories for the party in all future gubernatorial elections nationwide, saying that all party members would experience an equitable atmosphere during party elections.
At the APC’s 12th NEC meeting, President Tinubu expressed that after a successful election, it’s now time for the APC to deliver on its promise of good governance to the Nigerian populace.
He maintained that the 2023 elections were the most successful in Nigeria’s history.
Noteworthy absences at the APC NEC meeting included former President, Muhammadu Buhari, and ex-Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
However, Bisi Akande, the party’s inaugural national chairman, was present. Notably, the NEC meeting came after the national caucus session of the APC on Wednesday.
It should be mentioned that in mid-July, two key figures from the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) stepped down their posts. Senator Abdullahi Adamu and Senator Iyiola Omisore resigned as National Chairman and National Secretary of the party, respectively.
