In a recent operation near Banki town, in MORA, Cameroon, MNJTF forces reportedly neutralised at least four Boko Haram terrorists.
Zagazola Makama, a security expert in the Lake Chad region, confirmed that on Saturday morning, the terrorists were eliminated during a disrupted attempt to strike the troop unit around 2 am on Friday, October 14, 2023.
The mission of the force, headquartered in N’Djamena, is to terminate the Boko Haram insurgency in the region.
Zulum Inks Memorandum for UN Assistance in Handling Extensive Terrorist Defections in Borno
Apparently, on Thursday, Borno State’s Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, endorsed a memorandum of understanding for United Nations’ aid in addressing the widespread defection of Boko Haram terrorists in the state.
The governor, Zulum and Matthias Schmale, UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator, presided over the meeting. It was a forum for chief participants, including UN system’s vital supporting partners – UNDP, IOM, UNICEF, and UNODC, and local MDAs to deliberate and approve a draft terms of reference for the “One UN Offer Program Board”. This board oversees a unique fund that supports the Borno State Mass Defection Program.
The meeting was also graced by the Honourable Minister of Budget and National Planning, Senator Abubakar Atiku, the Chief of Defense Staff, General Christopher Musa, and representatives from the EU, Germany, Switzerland, and other global contributors.
General principles, terms of reference and membership of the UN Board backing the Borno Model were agreed upon at the meeting.
Attendees underscored the requirement for local control of the Mass Defection Program and welcomed the UN Peacebuilding Fund. This fund provides resources to uphold the Borno model.
The event was marked by Governor Zulum and a UN representative signing the agreed-upon program document. They were joined by the Honourable Minister of Budget and National Planning, the Chief of Defence Staff, and other key participants.
