“Your celebrity status doesn’t matter to me,” says the cop during a dispute with Phyna during spot-check

Footage has surfaced on the internet portraying a confrontation between Nigerian reality TV sensation, Josephine Otabor, widely known as Phyna, and local law enforcement officers.

The event took place over the weekend, and Phyna shared the unfolding situation with her followers via a live Instagram broadcast.

There are reports that the TV personality was stopped by the police for a routine stopping and searching procedure on a highway in Lagos.

Unhappy with the officer’s approach, Phyna, who revealed her celebrity status to him, expressed her dissatisfaction. The officer, in response, made it clear that he neither knew nor cared about Phyna’s fame.

In the midst of the dispute, Phyna, who was streaming live on Instagram, interrogated the police officers.

Here are some excerpts from their exchange:

Phyna: “You could have treated me better.”

Police officer: “I don’t know you, even if you call yourself a celebrity. Your celebrity status means nothing to me.”

Phyna: “Sir, you shouldn’t have filmed me. If you ask me to step out of the car, I will, but you should ask me before filming me. It’s not okay to shoot me as soon as I get out of the car. That’s not right.”

Gistlover reminds readers about another Big Brother Naija reality TV star, Princess, who previously had an argument with Phyna over her statement that every woman has had an abortion at least once.

In an earlier discussion with Chude Jideonwo, Phyna confessed to having two abortions. She, however, denied the assertion that every woman has had an abortion.

When recently questioned about the topic, Phyna stated that only women who are virgins are “fake innocents.”

She argued that every woman who’s had intimate relations has indirectly had an abortion. She further explained her stance by associating the use of birth control pills with the act of undergoing an abortion.

  1. The Police officer is right by saying, her celebrity status doesn’t matter when it comes to then fulfilling their job, but he’s wrong in the filming aspect, you can’t film someone without the person’s consent.
