According to reports, Israeli ground forces have made their way into Palestinian territory, specifically the Gaza strip, launching operations to thwart Hamas who recently initiated an aggressive attack on Israel.
The military proclaimed that troops have forged into Gaza to challenge insurgents, obliterate arms, and seek clues on the whereabouts of hostages speculated to be in the hands of Hamas.
The pronouncement is seemingly not the commencement of an anticipated ground invasion of Gaza. Israel has been accumulating forces along the Gaza perimeter since the lethal raid by Hamas insurgents the previous Saturday.
Nonetheless, today the Israeli army disclosed in a formal statement that foot soldiers and tanks infiltrated the Gaza strip the past Friday on “localized operations” to purge the area of possible threat elements and trace missing Israelis. This could potentially be a prelude to a full-scale counterstrike in response to the Hamas offensive which claimed the lives of over 1,300 Israelis the prior weekend.
Per Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) spokesperson Admiral Daniel Hagari, armored and foot soldiers implemented searches and “thwarted squads planning to penetrate Israeli territory with anti-tank guided missiles.
“The military has unearthed leads that may assist in tracing the lost,” Hagari stated. “We will persist in exhausting all resources to uncover every detail regarding the missing persons and hostages,” he further added.
The speculation is that Hamas took around 150 to 200 individuals hostage during their brutal attack on the previous Saturday. As of now, the Israeli military has notified around 120 families that their kin is being held captive in the Gaza strip.
