JUST-IN: Court of Appeal rejects Bauchi Chairman Suleiman

During its sitting in Abuja on Friday, the Court of Appeal, R. Hon. Abubakar Suleiman, the Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, from his position as member representing Ningi Central Constituency. The elections held in the constituency on March 18, 2023 were deemed inconclusive.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was ordered by the Court of Appeal to hold fresh elections at ten polling stations within the Ningi Central Constituency.

Ultimately, the judgment of the Election Petitions Tribunal, which had earlier upheld the election of Suleiman as a member of the State Assembly representing Ningi Central, was quashed by the Court of Appeal in Abuja.

In response to the ruling, Rt. Hon. Suleiman asked all voters, including his supporters, to maintain calm.

He claimed that despite the unfavorable verdict, he accepted it in good faith as, as a Muslim, he believes in fate.

The chairman claimed that he was always prepared for the repeat elections, even as he described the ruling as a minor political setback that occurred earlier in his political career.

In a statement issued by his media aide, Abdul Ahmad Burra, Suleiman said the unity and support he received in Ningi are still there, and no amount of pressure can bring him down.

He went on to say that doing a repeat in his stronghold of ten polling stations was practically a walkover, and wondered why his rivals insisted on prolonging their agony over losing the election.

He asserted that the PDP is still invincible because of the extraordinary infrastructure development that Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed initiated in Ningi Local Government Area.

The expelled chairman further said that despite persistent attempts by certain quarters to undermine him, he will not give up his goal of delivering democratic benefits to the people of Ningi Central Constituency.
