JUST IN!!! Wole Soyinka speaks out: “I support agitation for Biafra”

Nobel Laureate Professor Wole Soyinka has identified with the agitation for the Republic of Biafra, insisting that the Igbo people have been brutally treated as they have no option but to consider leaving Nigeria.

The respected playwright emphasized in an interview with Al Jazeera yesterday that “I am not rebelling against any particular entity called a nation; I am agitating against humanity.”

His words: “I am very pro-Biafra because I recognize that the Igbos have been desperately wronged.

“They have been mistreated in a way that justifies their feeling that they are not part of the nation.

“Let me also say this: Biafrans are not entirely innocent in this matter. It was not, but the unleashing of such a poison, such devastation upon them as a people, was enough to justify their decision not to be part of the nation.

“I was pro-Biafra in the sense that I thought they needed justice.”

While criticizing the removal of history and teaching of the Biafra crisis in schools, the Nobel laureate stated: “Public officials do not want to face their own history, especially the history that makes them uncomfortable, but If you don’t, if you confront your past, you’re going to ruin your future.”
