The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has called on the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to ensure justice for cattle herders reportedly killed in a military airstrike in Rukubi, Doma Chiefdom, Nasarawa State, on January 27, 2023 .
In a statement signed and released on Wednesday in Abuja, the National President of MACBAN, Baba Othman-Ngelzarma, urged the Federal Government to provide a clear compensation package to all victims of similar attacks across the country.
According to him, the victims of the Doma attack were said to have died as a result of a drone strike by the Nigerian Air Force.
“The victims were unloading their cattle, which were collected from the Benue cattle guard after paying a fine of N29 million.
“To vindicate the innocence of the victim, it was recorded that they were publicly buried in the presence of Nasarawa State officials, the royal father and thousands of sympathizers.
“The dead were bona fide, peace-loving Nigerians, who deserved justice like any other citizen.”
He expressed disappointment that the drone attack in Tudun Biri is receiving all the attention not only from the federal government but also from the military, which has taken responsibility and promised compensation for the victims.
“The leadership of the Northern Governors Forum and that of the federal legislature of government, in addition to visiting the site, have pledged all kinds of assistance.
“We, therefore, call on the Federal Government to extend the same gesture to the victims of the Rukubi drone attack and similar incidents that occurred in other states.”
“We believe that now is the time for the federal government to come up with a clear compensation package for the victims of such incidents across the country,” Othman-Ngelzarma said.
