“My son and his wife often fought over infidelity, while Wumi lied to me that my son loved women” – Mohbad's mother tells court

The mother of late musician Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, Mrs. Abosede Aloba, revealed in a coroner's court on Wednesday that she and the singer initially had a distant relationship.

Abosede explained that her relationship with Mohbad's father had soured, leaving them separated. However, she shared that they started reconnecting in 2019.

She gave her evidence at a coroner's inquest into her son's untimely death. She recalled that the musician was buried the day after his death on September 12 at the age of 27. His death has sparked controversy, prompting the Lagos State Government to initiate a judicial inquiry.

Mrs. Abosede Aloba said she and late singer Mohbad's father Joseph visited singer Naira Marley's residence to inquire about the disputes between him and Mohbad. She revealed that she encouraged Mohbad to seek help from Pasuma due to Naira Marley's constant abuse and assault. Pasuma assured them that he would intervene.

Mrs. Abosede Aloba further disclosed that Mohbad and his wife Wunmi often had conflicts related to infidelity which was the main concern she heard from his wife before his death.

She stated, “I was not in a relationship with Mohbad for years due to a strained relationship with his father, but we reconnected in 2019. After leaving the record label in 2022, he confided in me about the severe abuse he suffered. He asked me not to say anything for fear of reprisals. I advised him to contact Pasuma to report Naira Marley's abuse, and he did so. Pasuma promised to mediate. The only person he had problems with was Naira Marley. The video you saw of me and his father in his home was our attempt to understand the conflicts he had with our son. He and his wife, Wunmi, had frequent arguments over infidelity. That was the main concern that Wunmi raised, that my son was attracted to other women.”
