November 11 Election: NSCDC sends 22,600 personnel to Bayelsa, Imo and Kogi

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) has deployed no less than twenty-two thousand six hundred personnel to monitor this weekend’s governorship election in Bayelsa, Kogi and Imo States.

The Commandant General of the NSCDC, Ahmed Abubakar Audi, reiterated the agency’s commitment to supporting democratic governance and processes, adding that the commitment aims to ensure foolproof security for the electorate, officials and other stakeholders during the November 11 elections.

In a statement made available to journalists yesterday, the National Public Relations Officer of NSCDC NHQ, Abuja, CSC Babawale Zaid Afolabi, cautioned staff to maintain high ethical standards, discipline and professional conduct and remain apolitical.

He quoted the NSCDC Commander who had urged the people of the three states to cooperate with the security personnel and sister agencies, urging them to avoid any action that would undermine the strategic plans for peaceful conduct of the could disrupt elections, and warned of violence, voting. stealing boxes and other activities that may disrupt the exercise.

He also called on politicians to warn their supporters and stressed that sabotage will not be tolerated. The CG assured that the NSCDC personnel have been briefed on how to carry out their duties in coordination with other security agencies and stakeholders and that they will remain neutral on the ground to ensure the safety of the electorate, stakeholders and election officials.

The statement added that several NSCDC units such as undercover officers, Arms Squad, Counter-Terrorism Unit operatives, CG’s Special Intelligence Squad, Female Special Force, Rapid Response Squad, Crack Squad and Anti-vandal Unit have been seconded to prevent any disruptions that could disrupt peace during the elections.

“The force carried out the massive deployment in the affected states where elections are to be held. Our personnel are sufficiently informed on how to fulfill their duties in synergy with other safety services and stakeholders,” Audi said.

He added: “We will remain neutral on the ground to ensure the safety of the electorate, other stakeholders and election officials, and no act of sabotage will be tolerated.
