Former Nigerian leaders Olusegun Obasanjo, Goodluck Jonathan, and Muhammadu Buhari celebrated King Edmund Maduabebe Daukoru of the Nembe Kingdom in Bayelsa State on his 80th birthday and book unveiling.
This tribute came as King Daukoru revealed that the forthcoming phase of his kingdom’s advancement will feature the introduction of a gas turbine, comprehensive farming and fishing, land recovery, and an extensive water system.
In his greeting, Chief Obasanjo highlighted that the king has lived a fully realized life, blessed by God in numerous ways. He also acknowledged the former Petroleum Resources Minister’s guidance and ability to inspire positivity and creativity among millions.
“Throughout the years, you’ve demonstrated remarkable bravery, leadership, foresight, devotion, and immeasurable patriotism for your people and nation, Nigeria. You represent love, compassion, optimism, affection, discipline, and a focus on the collective good,” Obasanjo stated. He also went on to affirm how King Daukoru has used his influence to maintain peace in the region and bring continuous benefits to the South-South geopolitical zone.
Jonathan also praised the ex-OPEC leader for his remarkable statesmanship, with significant achievements in both public and private sectors. He noted how King Daukoru served as a mentor to many all over the country, guiding them to succeed and achieve greatness.
“As first-class monarch in Bayelsa State and chairman of the South-South Monarch Forum, you’ve continually advocated for regional development and tranquillity,” indicated Jonathan.
Buhari deemed the king’s age as a divine blessing and expressed his gratitude to God for it. He further wished for more years of good health and mental clarity for the King.
According to Abdulsalami Abubakar, former Head of State, King Daukoru is a gifted elder statesman, philanthropist, and fervent patriot who made substantial contributions to the nation’s wellness.
Abubakar stated, “HRM made a significant impact on many lives during his tenure as Minister of State for Energy in Nigeria and in other roles he undertook.”
Mike Oghiadomhe, ex-deputy governor of Edo State, declared that Daukoru represents “a unique blend of intellectual vigour, devout allegiance to traditional institutions, and deep faith in God Almighty.”
Other esteemed political and traditional personalities attended the event, including the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, the Ooni of Ife, Adeye Enitan Ogunwusi, King Jaja and Dandeson Douglas Jaja.
