Ondo PDP appoints acting chairman amid controversy over suspension

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State has appointed Tola Alabere, the Vice Chairman, as acting Chairman.

This decision comes after the suspension of State Chairman Fatai Adams by the State Working Committee (SWC) on Tuesday.

The announcement was supported by nine out of ten SWC members, including Alabere himself.

The party's publicity secretary, Kennedy Peretei, confirmed the validation of the suspension by the State Executive Committee (SEC).

Peretei explained: “The SWC leads the party on behalf of the SEC. So whatever action the SWC takes down the line will have to be submitted to the SEC for approval, and that is exactly what we have done today.”

Adams, however, disputed the suspension, terming it a politically motivated move linked to the upcoming Akoko North East/North West Federal Constituency by-election.

“This will not last,” he asserted, claiming there was an “evil agenda” behind his removal.

Echoing this sentiment, the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Debo Ologunagba, deemed the action of the Ondo SWC as null and void, citing their lack of authority to suspend the chairman without the approval of the National Working Committee (NWC).
