In response to Senator Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru of the All Progressive Congress (APC), the National Secretary’s call to charge Peter Obi of the Labor Party (LP) with treason, Dele Momodu, a leader from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed his thoughts.
It should be remembered that Basiru had previously proposed that Obi’s public statements undergo a thorough examination by the Federation’s Attorney General.
Momodu posted a picture of Basiru on his Instagram and expressed his concern that Nigerians are now being threatened for expressing their viewpoints.
Momodu pointed out that Bola Tinubu, the president, gained recognition by regularly criticizing the former President, Olusegun Obasanjo.
He questioned the logic behind requesting Obi’s charge for treason simply for inquiring about certain issues
Momodu stated, “It is unfortunate to see that politicians who are currently intimidating their fellow Nigerians for expressing their views PEACEFULLY seem to have conveniently forgotten our recent history. TINUBU was one of the most vocal critics of dictatorial rule. By constantly targeting PRESIDENT OLUSEGUN OBASANJO and others, he garnered significant popularity. Why should anyone suggest charging PETER OBI with treason for posing relevant questions? Are we transitioning from MILITARY TYRANNY to CIVIL DICTATORSHIP? This revived trend of HERO WORSHIP is alarmingly dangerous and regrettable.”
