Shaibu Shows Intent for Edo Gubernatorial Contest

The Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu, is anticipated to participate in the 2024 gubernatorial election as he faces increasing demands to take this step.

According to a source close to him, Shaibu, who has the support of representatives from all the political factions in the state, has his political aspiration evolving into a drive beyond his personal discretion.

The source mentioned that the preparations are proceeding in full force, with Shaibu poised to declare his intent once all preparations are completed.

The source added, “Even if Comrade Shaibu desired to suppress his ambition due to his superior’s stance, it is now too late as numerous individuals and groups, both locally and internationally, have already rallied behind it.

” If he had considered resolving the issues, there were already groups and individuals who had independently consulted and encouraged him even prior to his disagreement with his superior, and we would not have agreed with that,” the source added.

A Shaibu supporter, in a conversation with LEADERSHIP on Thursday evening, stated: “We hold the belief that Shaibu, owing to his extensive experience, is the best potential successor to Obaseki. He has a strong connection with the general populous, he bridges the gap between the younger and older generations, and has an internal perspective on Obaseki’s reforms.”

The supporter claimed that Shaibu has the backing of high-ranking members within the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC), and the Labor Party (LP).
