The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has been warned by the indigenous people of Biafra (IPOB) to refrain from using Nnamdi Kanu's name to further his political ambitions.
Recall that Kanu was arrested in Kenya in 2021 and returned to Nigeria, and has since been detained by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
On December 15, the Supreme Court granted the federal government's request to have him stand trial on terrorism charges.
In a statement released on Wednesday, IPOB warned Kalu against using the organization and Kanu's political persecution for his own selfish political gain, stating that IPOB has outgrown its stage of political posturing and gimmicks.
He said: “Kalu has been constantly on print and social media claiming to have worked hard for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
“IPOB and Kanu have become a daily song for him, but he has no genuine interest in the IPOB fight nor in the unconditional release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu from the persecution and illegal detention by the Federal Government.
“It is pathetic that some selfish Igbo politicians are bent on destroying IPOB and Mazi Nnamdi Kanu while other politicians from other zones are strengthening their political agitation groups. Without IPOB, ESN and Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, many villages in the South East would have been occupied by terrorists.
“The people of the South East and the public should ignore Kalu and Co. They cannot deceive the intelligent men and women in IPOB and Biafras in general. We know their plans and they will face the consequences of their actions when the time is right.
“At this point in our struggle, we are not happy and would not take kindly to anyone who endangers the life of our leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, for any reason. At IPOB we do not forget and we do not forgive. Benjamin Kalu must be careful with his plans to antagonize IPOB members, ESN and Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

“Kalu must stop demanding the peace that the people of the South East experienced during this Christmas season. IPOB and ESN agents ensured that the last Christmas season was celebrated peacefully in our region. IPOB made it clear that criminals should stay away from Ndigbo and away from your encounter with Benjamin Kalu during this Christmas season.
