The residence of the Director General of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) Campaign Council, Ibrahim Jibrin, has been attacked by some political thugs suspected to be from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi State.
During the attack in Anyigba, the thugs killed a police officer and four other persons.
According to SaharaReporters, the hoodlums who attacked the house at around 6am on Tuesday also took away the corpse of the police officer, identified as Atabor, and the other victims, security men believed to be on duty.
According to a statement by the spokesperson of the Muri/Sam Gubernatorial Campaign of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Faruk Adejoh-Audu, the hoodlums were a “rogue group” allegedly assembled by Governor Yahaya Bello ahead of Saturday’s governorship election in the state.
Adejoh-Audu said: “A rogue police force constituted by the Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Bethrand Unuoha on behalf of the Governor, killed a serving police officer while entering the house of the Director General of the SDP Campaign Council for Kogi State, Sheikh , attacked. Ibrahim Jibrin with an Armored Personel Carrier (APC) in Anyigba this morning.
“The rogue force comprising of thugs led by one Friday Makama who was officially declared wanted by a Federal High Court, one Supol Ojo of Lokoja Mopol office and naval mercenaries led by NU Akalezi of the Nigerian Navy killed the police guard, Officer Atabor at about 6:00 this morning.
“The rogue outfit which allegedly included DSS operatives, aided by Deputy Director General of the agency who is in Lokoja and acting with lesser responsibility as Director, Mr. Tosin Ajayi mercilessly attacked for over an hour while several persons were shot, but officer Atabor was confirmed killed on the spot.
“The APC broke the gate of the Sheikh’s County house to gain access to the compound before releasing the rogue soldier who opened fire and killed Atabor indiscriminately as the other guards took cover.
“They took away the body of police officer Atabor and about six other people, including probably four police officers on official duty.
“It is also feared that our New Media campaign leader, Comrade ID Ijele, may also have been kidnapped. He was last heard from at 6am this morning while the attack was in progress.
“The rogue soldiers are still prowling around Anyigba with the Armored Personalities Carrier (APC) at the time of writing this statement.
“The police in Kogi, just like during the 2019 governorship election when they acquired a helicopter to shoot at voters, are carrying out Bello’s desperate plans to overwhelm the will of the people. The attack using a rogue force of Navy rogues and mercenaries was deliberately designed to begin a few days before the election.
“It is our information that Bethrand Unuoha and some other compromised security chiefs in Kogi will continue these sporadic attacks on our campaign leaders and supporters, especially in Kogi East, until election day.

“This is to achieve Bello’s plan to suppress voter turnout in Kogi East which he claims is an SDP stronghold. The Muri/Sam Campaign Council is once again calling on the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to transfer this Commissioner who has been an enthusiastic enforcer of Bello’s desperate violent plans to enable free and fair elections in Kogi State.
