Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has said there is no animosity between him and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mudashiru Obasa.
He gave the assurance while speaking at a budget retreat by Lagos State lawmakers.
Recall that Sanwo-Olu had on Wednesday presented a historic budget for the year 2024 of N2.246, 234 trillion to members of the State House of Assembly.
In the budget, capital expenditure totals N1,224 and recurrent expenditure totals N1,021 trillion. Recurrent expenditure amounts to N1,021,954 trillion (45%), while capital expenditure amounts to N1,224,280 (55%).
Speaking at the retreat with the lawmakers, Sanwo-Olu said: “This is the best and best and deserves to be emulated. I would like to thank you and say that this is indeed the way we should always organize ourselves. Keep raising the bar.”
He thanked the Speaker, Members, Assembly Commission and House staff for always putting Lagos first above other considerations.
“There is talk in town that we have a big budget, but I also tell them that it is because we are big people. I appreciate the fact that you have a huge responsibility and I pray God Almighty to give you the ability and courage to do the work without passion.
“Whatever the outcome, you can be assured that the Governor will comply and work with you.
“There is no animosity between the Speaker and me. We are two different sides of the same coin. We are brothers and friends, and God will lead us to a level where we can bring Lagos to an irreversible state.
“Mr. The President is watching us. He has no other state to call his own. He is the President of Nigeria but he has his roots in Lagos. Our success is his success and Nigeria's success. If we do well, the entire nation will be on the path to do well,” he added.
