Tribunal grants Ajaka and SDP access to Kogi election materials

The Kogi State Election Petition Tribunal, headed by Justice Yusuf Ado Birnin-Kudu in Lokoja, has granted Murtala Ajaka of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and his legal team access to documents used in the November 11 governorship election.

Following a request by Ajaka’s counsel, SE Aruwa SAN, who struggled to obtain the documents from the offices of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Tribunal ordered INEC to comply within 24 hours.

Justice Birnin-Kudu recognized the merits of the application under the Nigerian Constitution and the 2023 Electoral Act.

He directed INEC to provide certified copies of the election documents to John Adele, SAN and SE Aruwa (SAN), representing Ajaka and the SDP, within two days.

The Tribunal also directed INEC to provide access to the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) and other electronic materials used in the elections within 48 hours, in response to a request by Ajaka.
