University of Cape Coast praised for appointment of first visually impaired lecturer: 'History maker'

A former Minister of Education, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has commended the University of Cape Coast for appointing its first lecturer for the visually impaired.

Carruthers Tetteh was appointed to the school's law faculty, a position he assumed in December 2023.

Tetteh will become a lecturer in Criminal Law and the Ghanaian legal system.

Opoku-Agyemang, former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, said the appointment brought her joy.

“Our special education department also deserves commendation for the phenomenal work done over the years in graduating students with special needs in various schools and departments,” she added.

The Association of African Universities also praised the university and “Carruthers' steadfast spirit and dedication to the law.”

This teacher said he was very impressed and added: “I'm told he's very good.”

She explained that this was the first time she had lived on her terms, free from the instructions and rules of any guardian or superior.

UG publishes admission list

The admission list was posted on the University of Ghana website where applicants were asked to check their admission status.

The University of Ghana also released a statement clarifying the status of individuals who had D7 in some subjects.
