Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, the vice presidential nominee for the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 elections, has demanded the resignation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima.
In a television interview on Arise, Baba-Ahmed deemed the inauguration of both officials as “unconstitutional.”
Baba-Ahmed, a former senator, believes that Senate President Godswill Akpabio should be allowed to conduct presidential elections following the departure of Tinubu and Shettima.
He pledged the Labour Party’s refusal to work with what he denotes as an ‘illicit regime’.
Baba-Ahmed quoted, “The appeal court and the Supreme Court have failed to validate the success of Tinubu’s presidency. They have endorsed the unconstitutional aspects of this election, and seem to prefer it this way. They possess the control, and nothing can be done to challenge that.
“That’s why we condemn this unjust show of power. If there was a way, we would halt it, but as law-abiding citizens, we cannot. Hence, I’m here, voicing my grievances.
“I’m not taken aback. I will never be startled by deceitful actions such as certificate forgery and embezzlement of narcotics-related funds. I wasn’t surprised when IReV was dismissed midway through a bout when they witnessed our victory.
“The Labour Party claimed victory in the 2023 presidential election. There’s no debating that. They have misused their power and manipulated the current state of Nigeria.
“We request Tinubu and Shettima to step down and allow the Senate President to arrange new elections. Their illegitimate inauguration is unacceptable, and we refuse to collaborate with such a regime. If it’s not constitutional, we will have no part in it.”
Reflecting on Tinubu’s six-month tenure as president, Datti criticized him for only producing disasters and failing to halt the country’s decline.
He stated, ‘The president has accomplished nothing and shows no intention to do so. The administration has made no progress turning Nigeria from consumption and waste to production. They won’t cease the violence or initiate healing. They continue to perpetuate corruption rather than foster integrity, and have done nothing to reverse Nigeria’s downward trajectory.’
“A man like Alhaji Tinubu, who has held a godlike status in Nigeria for so long, needs to be brought back to reality. Where has the immense power he held in a country like Nigeria contributed to our welfare and safety in the past six months?”

“They are incapable. They hold power for their own interests – for their ego, wealth, comfort, and their own motives, not for the betterment of Nigeria.”
