An alliance of civil society groups and political entities advocating for good governance have labeled the press briefing by Peter Obi, the 2023 Labor Party’s (LP) presidential contestant, as disgraceful and ludicrous.
The chairperson of the alliance, Dr. Lilian Ene Ogbole, expressed in an interview with reporters in Abuja on Thursday, that Obi’s attempt to challenge the identity of President Bola Tinubu is immature.
She stated that Obi exhibits desperation as he has tried to instill uncertainty regarding the President’s academic certificate and personal data presented to INEC, yet he provides no supportive proof to justify his claims.
Ogbole encouraged Nigerians to disregard the past Governor of Anambra State’s actions that malign the reputation of President Tinubu and Nigeria as a whole.
She articulated: “If Atiku’s press briefing could be categorized accurately as a strategic exercise to regain power unconventionally by exploiting casual sentiments, spewing untruths and speculations that have been globally verified and dismissed indefinitely, then Mr. Obi’s delayed press conference on the same subject, is immature, humiliating and ridiculous at best.
“The level of desperation we are confronting is indeed baffling, particularly Peter Obi’s eager attempts to generate multiple uncertainties about the documents and personal data the President supplied to INEC, yet he lacks any substantial evidence to validate his assertions.” accusations.
“Rather than presenting proof that contradicts President Tinubu’s submissions to INEC, Obi has amusingly requested that the President provide him with evidence to invalidate the certificates and information put forward to INEC.”
