The National Hospital, Abuja has dismissed reports claiming that renowned Nollywood actor Zack Orji has been transferred to a private facility for further treatment.
The hospital's chief medical director, Prof. Muhammad Raji Mahmud, stated that Orji's family had chosen to take him out of the hospital against medical advice.
This decision came to light on Thursday, January 4.
Contrary to some reports, Orji underwent surgery at the National Hospital after stabilization but was taken away by his family, hospital spokesman Tayo Hastrup said.
The statement reads: “The attention of the National Hospital Abuja has been drawn to a publication insinuating that the Apex Hospital has referred Nigerian actor Zack Orji to a private hospital in Abuja.
“To set the record straight, the actor, who was brought in on New Year’s Eve and admitted to the ICU, was stabilized by the National Hospital Abuja and shifted to the ENT department.
“Later that day he was transferred to the orthopedic department where our surgeons started preparing him for surgery. However, the patient's relatives signed a 'Departure against medical advice' form on January 1, 2024.
